Abstract
The plasmalemma of young hyphae of Achlya bisexualis ♂ cultured with and without monensin was isolated for the first time by free-flow electrophoresis. The membrane fractions were characterized enzymically and by electron microscopy. Monensin was found to lead to a reduction in the activities of numerous enzymes the proportions of sterols and proteins, and sterol/phospholipid and protein/lipid ratios.
